Useful Tips for Medical Volunteers
- Notify the relevant authorities of your intention to work in Jamaica in writing at an early date.
- Submit your application at least 3 months in advance to ensure enough lead time for your documents to be processed and for you to receive a response.
- Ensure that all relevant documents that are submitted for registration are certified or notarized. Failure to do so may lead to delays in your registration.
- Be sure that a detailed list of items you intend to bring with you on the mission is sent to the organization you intend to work with prior to the date of your visit. This is to facilitate customs clearance of the items.
- Please ensure that you receive written correspondence from the local authorized body prior to your visit. This document may be needed when you are to clear immigration on your arrival in Jamaica.
- If you plan to donate equipment to any of the health facilities in Jamaica, please adhere to the guidelines for the importation of equipment. The institution will also need to know about the equipment to ensure that it be effectively utilized for service.
