About King's House Action Committee

PURPOSE

To facilitate and promote the work of Jamaicans in the Diaspora and other individuals overseas who provide medical and clinical assistance to the island individually or through various non-profit organizations.


One of the focus for the committee is to encourage greater assistance for sick children by working with individuals and organizations involved in the care of children, to widen the opportunities for medical/clinical interventions that will result in more children benefiting from surgical and other medical procedures performed locally and overseas.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and maintain a registry of not-for-profit organizations (Churches, Service Clubs, Hospitals, Jamaicans in the Diaspora, and other volunteers) that make medical contributions to Jamaica on a regular basis
  • Develop a system for the compilation, distribution and publication of pertinent information regarding the requirements to work as a medical/clinical volunteer in Jamaica
  • Be in constant liaison with the relevant regulatory councils and agencies, and the Ministry of Health to ensure that all volunteers comply with the protocols and standards set
  • Identify and train a core group of individuals from related organizations to serve as the local contact for the volunteer individual or group
  • To raise funds that are necessary to cover the cost of the activities of the committee, and assist in covering the expenses of patients having to travel abroad for medical care
  • Provide information on Jamaican culture, historic and recreational sites, and where necessary, organizes tours for volunteers
  • Direct the ongoing co-ordination of activities, monitor progress and provide a detailed report on each event
  • Compile and maintain a manual of events relating to the work done by the medical /clinical volunteers, and the donations of equipment and supplies to our health institutions.
